James E. (Jim) Henning

James E. (Jim) Henning, age 83, of Harborcreek, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, Pa. Jim was born May 7, 1934 in Wheeling, W.V., to parents Floyd Edward Henning and Elizabeth (Bebout) Henning.

Jim lived in the Erie, Pa., community for over 70 years. He worked as an engineer at General Electric, where he was a design engineer. He also worked for Kaiser Aluminum (AKW) as a plant engineer, and finished his career at Port Erie Plastics.

Jim attended Asbury United Methodist Church with his wife, Mary, where they married in October of 2009. He was an avid member of the Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club where he won many awards for showing his 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible. Jim was also a coach for the Chautauqua County New York Special Olympics Golf Program.

He enjoyed attending antique car shows, golfing and spending time with his family and friends, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary R. Henning, whom he married Oct. 17, 2009; his sister, Nancy (Bill) Hauck of Gulf Shores, Ala.; his children: Gregory (Mercedes) Henning, Kellie (Lamar) Roberts, Brian Henning, Sr., Kenneth (Maryanne) Henning, David (Karen) Henning, and Timothy Henning; and grandchildren: Jillian Henning, Chelsey Belden, Heidi Hauck, Amber Preston, Nick Henning, Brian Henning, Nicole Henning, Justin Henning, and Bryce Henning.

Jim also had many great-grandchildren, and was also dearly loved by his wife’s family, Deborah and Eric Bolling, Margaret and George Coulter, Larry Nowell, and Darlene O’Connor, along with their children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra (Gary) Murray; and a grandson, Anthony Henning. A memorial service for Jim will be announced at a later date.
