Joyce S. Spicer, 89, of Russell, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at her residence.
Joyce was born Sept. 30, 1927, in the family home in Lander, Pa. She is the daughter of the late Ernest A. and Doris Almendinger Stanton.
A lifelong resident of Lander and Russell, Joyce was a 1945 graduate of the Lander High School. She was residing in the home she and her late husband built together 46 years ago. She was a longtime member of the Lander United Methodist Church and active in the Women’s Society there. Joyce was retired from the New Process/Blair Corp., and also worked for Betty Dixon Candies.
Always active, she was a member of the Warren County Horseshoe League, having won many first place tournaments. She belonged to several bowling leagues, enjoyed reading, puzzles daily crosswords and working in her flower garden. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by two daughters: Deborah Raymond and husband, Don, of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Rita Kelly and husband, and Eddie, of Russell, Pa.; one son, Michael Spicer and wife Donna, of Lander Pa; a sister, B. Elaine (Sally) Nash of Frewsburg, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Christina Raymond Pitts, and husband, Miller of South Carolina, Jason Raymond and wife, Anna, of Jamestown, N.Y., Steven Raymond and wife, Alicia, of Frewsburg, N.Y., Andrew Weilacher, and wife, Jamie, of Illinois, Bradley Weilacher and wife, Megan, of North Carolina, and Levi Kelly, of Russell, Pa; 10 greatgrandchildren; four sisters- in-law: Erma Thelin of Warren, Pa., Barbara Ekey of Warren, Pa., Janie Spicer of Lander, Pa. and Patricia Stanton, of Warren, Pa; and one brother-in-law, Francis Spicer, and wife, of Russell, Pa; and many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Duane G. Spicer, whom she married on Oct. 27, 1951, at the Lander United Methodist Church; and two brothers: William and Kenneth Stanton.
Friends will be received at the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home, Inc., 1003 Penna. Ave. E., Warren, Pa., on Friday, May 5 from 4-7 p.m., and at the Lander United Methodist Church, 5582 PA-957, Russell, Pa., on Saturday, May 6, from 10-11 a.m., at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. J. Mark Hurst, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Thompson Hill Cemetery.
