Marion E. (Corwin) Engdahl
Marion E. (Corwin) Engdahl, 86, entered the joy of her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, from Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Greenhurst.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., on April 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John and Theresa (Gleim) Corwin. She was a 1948 graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth, and attended Nyack Missionary Training Institute in 1950-51. There she met Roy Engdahl, and they were married Dec. 8, 1951.
They lived in Sinclairville, Jamestown, Lakewood, and, for 50 years, in Busti. She enjoyed spending winters in Dunedin, Fla., in her later years.
She raised five children, served as church pianist and organist for over 60 years, and taught the toddlers Sunday school class. She loved baking, music, growing flowers, reading books, and telling stories she made up for the kids. Roy and Marion helped start the Lakewood Baptist Church, and served Bethel Baptist Church (Jamestown) for many years.
A highlight of their time at Bethel was a mission trip to help build a clinic in Gambia, West Africa. She was a skilled seamstress and upholsterer, and after the children were grown she worked for 10 years at Union National Furniture.
She is survived by her children, Jonathan (Janice) Engdahl of Chardon, OH, Elizabeth “Fizzy” (Randy) Jones of Bemus Point, Barbara (Mike) Metzinger of Corry, Pa., Dorothy (Mike) Conway of Endicott and David Engdahl of Dunedin, Fla; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor (Charles) Ho of Vestal.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Engdahl; brother John Corwin; and sister, Florence McCabe.
Funeral service 3 p.m. Sunday at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, with one hour visitation prior to the service. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to ABWE’s Ndungu Kebbeh clinic in The Gambia:
