Lewis J. Prentice Sr.

RANDOLPH — Lewis J. Prentice Sr., 81, of Walker Road, Randolph, passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, in the emergency room of WCA Hospital.
He was born April 3, 1935, in Angelica, N.Y., the son of the late Clifford and Eula Worden Prentice.
Lewis attended a one room school house in Angelica, and later served in the U.S. Army from 1969-70.
A veteran of the lumber business, he worked for many years as a logger and skidder for Potter Lumber in Alleghany, Doug Lecceardone (Louis Mason Mill) and retired from Ellington Hardwood in Ellington, NY.
Following retirement, Lewis and his wife, Alice enjoyed traveling and hauling their camper south, staying at numerous campsites while visiting and enjoying sightseeing.
Lewis was happiest when he was in the woods, cutting firewood and also listening to Rush Limbaugh.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Ramsten Prentice, whom he married June 3, 1961, in Olean, N.Y.; a daughter, Barbara Howden of Clymer; two sons: Paul Prentice and wife, Michele of Frewsburg and Lewis Prentice Jr. and wife, Gina of Jamestown. 11 grandchildren: Nicole Young of Jamestown, Jonathan Prentice of Boston, Mass., Adam Prentice of Buffalo, Katelyn Prentice of Frewsburg, Anne and Chris Howden of Clymer, Ethan Howden of Boise, Idaho, Zoe Howden of Edinboro, University, Brian and Andrew Prentice of Jamestown and Jennifer Prentice of Mobile, Ala. He is also survived by his siblings: Charles, Robert and Gary Prentice, Ethel Wagner, Beatrice Scott and Shirley Buchinger.
He was preceded in death by a son; Steven Prentice in 2002; and a brother, Jerry Prentice.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, in the VanRensselaer and Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, from where friends will be received from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service. Pastor Dave Golden will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery in Olean.
