James B. Cummings

A lifelong area resident, he was born Dec. 8,1958, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of Virginia Constantine Cummings and the late James A. Cummings.

Jim was a 1977 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Before his recent retirement, he was employed by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, water division, where he worked for 31 years.

He was a member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and the Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings.

He will be remembered for his love of NASCAR racing and the New York Yankees. He loved spending time with his family, especially his golf outings with his sons.

Surviving are his mother, Virginia Cummings of Jamestown; his three children; Bryan (Victoria) Cummings of Jamestown, William “Billy” (Katrina) Cummings of Ashville, N.Y., and Brittany (Chad) Crandall of Mayville, N.Y.; six grandchildren: James Crandall and Alex Crandall of Mayville, Ryley Cummings and Caeley Cummings of Ashville, and Samantha VanBuskirk and Brandon VanBuskirk of Jamestown; and his brother, Stephen (Sara) Cummings of Stoneville, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Cummings, who died Aug. 7, 1971.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The Rev. Jarrod Russell, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be led by the Rev. Russell at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
