Norman Everett Johnson, who was a former photographer for the Jamestown Post-Journal, passed away Sept. 1, 2016, in Mesa, Arizona, after fighting a long battle with thyroid cancer.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, Gilbert, Arizona. This will be followed by a burial at the Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, Mesa, Arizona.
Norman Everett Johnson was born in Salamanca. He was born just one day after the first anniversary of his parents [Paul and Arline (Heath) Johnson], who predeceased him. He grew up on his parents’ farm in a small town called Napoli, N.Y., with his brother Gordon and also helped out with his grandparents’ farm, located just outside of Randolph, N.Y.
After high school, Norman became an orderly at WCA Hospital. Norman has held different positions throughout life: Photojournalist for the Jamestown Post-Journal, commercial real estate agent, co-owner of the Jamestown Ambulance Service, volunteer firefighter, to name just a few. He also was a great listener with a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his parents predeceasing him, a son, Michael, predeceased him in 2005. He does have two daughters who reside in Arizona: Suzan Braun and Nanci (Cyril) Cahill. Norman also is survived by his brother Gordon (Ginger) Johnson; a granddaughter, Karena (Geoffrey) Benway; and two great-grandchildren: Bryleigh and Murphy. In addition, he has several cousins, nephews and nieces who survive and predeceased him.
