Courtney E. Fargo

Courtney E. Fargo, 88, of North Center Street, Corry, Pa., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Warren R. and Esther Lawson Fargo.

Courtney was raised in Columbus, Pa., and attended Corry Area High School. He married Charlotte Fehlman on June 20, 1953. She preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 1993. Courtney was employed by the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, which later became Conrail, all his working life and retired as a Supervisor in December 1987. In January of 1954, he and Jack Armitage purchased the Keystone Station at N. Center and Columbus Avenue, selling the gas station in April 1955. After his retirement from the railroad, Courtney worked at the Corry Auto Dealers Exchange for many years, as well as working with Chuck Geer. Courtney served with the U.S. Army in Mannheim, Germany from 1950-52, and was honorably discharged in 1956.

He was a member of the VFW and past member of the American Legion. He was active with the YMCA Swim Team Aquatic Club, serving as president, through the years his children were involved. He also served as past president on the YMCA Board of Directors, and was on the Board of Directors and a member of Pine Grove Cemetery Association. He was a past member of the Stanford Hose Company and was an active volunteer fireman. Courtney enjoyed spending his summer at his cottage on Chautauqua Lake with his family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Courtney was preceded in death by a brother, Lowell R. Fargo and a sister, Lloydine Hotchkiss.

Courtney is survived by three daughters, Hollace Sowinski and her husband, Christopher of Dewittville, N.Y., Lisa Nichols and her husband, Troy of Ruckersville, Va., and Kristen Andrus and her husband, David of Corry; a son, Ross Fargo and his wife, Karen of Corry, Pa.; and two brothers, W. Duane “Red” Fargo of Columbus, Pa., and Rodney Fargo and his wife, Delores of Corry, Pa.,

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Andrew Sowinski of Cleveland, Ohio, Sarah and Matthew Sowinski of Dewittville, N.Y., Erin Thompson (John) of Culpeper, Va., Alison Poeppel (Keith) of Charlottesville, Va., Leslie Fink (Garrett) of Houston, Texas, Eric Andrus (Brenda Evans) of Corry, Pa., Melanie Andrus (Nick Upperman) of Spartansburg, Pa., Lindsey Bunker (Nic) of Corry, Pa., and Lance Fargo of Corry, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren, Blake, Charlotte, Conor, Ronan, Easton, Emma, Marley and Carter; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Diana Woodworth of Columbus, Pa.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Tuesday from noon until the time of the funeral service there at 2 pm. Pastor Les Utegg, Relevant Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pa.
