Laverne A. Post
VALATIE, N.Y. – Laverne A. Post, 66, of State Route 203, Valatie, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, in Evergreen Commons Nursing Home in East Greenbush, N.Y.
Laverne was born Oct. 27, 1949, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Omer Post of Randolph, N.Y., and the late Alice (Kelley) Post Cranston.
He attended Randolph Central School and Ichabod Crane High School in Valatie, N.Y.
Laverne received his GED while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1969-72.
Mr. Post spent his entire career as a truck driver, retiring from Gorman Brothers Trucking in Albany, N.Y.
A devoted husband and family man, he was a member of the North Chatham United Methodist Church and was a member of the Dunkirk Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 89 for more than 40 years. His interests included camping, woodworking and spending time visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; June G. Hemenger, whom he married March 3, 1971, in Hawaii; his father, Omer Post of Randolph, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Katharine (Tom) Bixby of Fredonia; three grandchildren: Erica Bixby of Garfield, N.J., Brad (Toni) Bixby and Derek Bixby and a great-grandson, Braxton Bixby, all of Fredonia.
In addition are three sisters: Eileen (Roy) Love and Deneen (Jim) Benson, all of Randolph, and Maureen Makula of Fredonia; two brothers: Lynn (Marcia) Post of Texas, and Lowell Post of Randolph; brother- in-law; Raymond (Pat) Hemenger; and sister-in- law, Kandey Hemenger.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Kelley Post Cranston; a brother, Lloyd Post; and a sister, Colleen Johengen
The family will receive family and friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m., with Randall Honey officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the Randolph American Legion Post 181. Inurnment will follow in the Steamburg Cemetery.
