Mario Alch
Mario Alch, 96, died peacefully at his home in Lily Dale on May 22, 2016.
Mario was born March 20, 1920, in Highland Ill.
A professional tenor, he received his bachelors degree from Julliard and his masters degree from Columbia University. He performed leading tenor roles in major opera houses around the world. In 1970, he returned to the United States and was the opera director and voice professor at SUNY Fredonia. In 1988, he retired from Ohio State University in Columbus, as professor emeritus. During his fine teaching career he influenced many young singers and left a legacy of fine musicians performing and teaching around the world.
Mario is survived by his loving wife, Monika Alch; his son, John Alch of Columbus; a daughter, Missy Alch Harpling of Munster, Germany; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
