Dennis E. Brumagin
Dennis E. Brumagin, 68, of Route 430, Findley Lake, N.Y., died on Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home in the town of Mina, Findley Lake, N.Y.
He was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Corry, Pa., a son of the late Carlton H. and Mildred E. Danielson Brumagin.
Dennis was raised on a dairy farm in French Creek, N.Y., and graduated from Sherman Central School, class of 1965. Following high school he graduated from the G.E. Apprentice Course as a master electrician. He later attended Gannon University and graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering. Dennis was a professional engineer and worked at General Electric in Erie for 42 years, from 1966 until his retirement in 2008, as a manager of plant engineering and maintenance and construction.
He was active in many projects around the lake, including treasurer of the Findley Lake Watershed Foundation, project manager for the Findley Lake Dam, Break Wall Repair Project, and designed and built the water wheel at Findley Lake. Dennis was also a board member of the East Erie Commercial Railroad, a volunteer at the Achievement Center in Erie, a former town of Mina planning board member, recreational director and baseball coach. He was also a former board member of the Eastside YMCA, Erie, and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sherman, N.Y.
Dennis enjoyed bowling, golf, baseball, helping his family with handyman projects, walking in the woods with his dog, Wilbur and vacationing at his home in Sun City, Ariz. Dennis loved to travel, especially to England and Wales. He also liked watching his grandchildren play sports, helping with community projects and socializing with friends and family. Dennis was a 20-year survivor of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. He was resuscitated by CPR and lived a full and rewarding life.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Rebecca N. Smith Brumagin, whom he married on Sept. 12, 1969, in Findley Lake, N.Y.; two sons: Alexey “Lex” Brumagin and his wife, Melissa, and Tyler Brumagin and his wife, Michelle, all of Findley Lake, N.Y.; a sister, Suzanne B. Dunlap of Jamestown, N.Y.; and two brothers: David L. Brumagin and his wife, Cherryl of French Creek, N.Y., and Douglas M. Brumagin of Corry, Pa. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Emily (Scottie) Holtsclaw of Virginia Beach, Va., Elizabeth Brumagin, Erin Brumagin and Gregory Brumagin of Findley Lake, N.Y., Dustin (Brittney Zemcik) Taubert of French Creek, N.Y., Shane Taubert of Corry, Pa., Arianna Taubert and Cydney Amoroso, both of Findley Lake, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren: Winter Holtsclaw and Lane Taubert.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry, Pa., on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6:30-9 pm., with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends.
Burial will be in Mina Cemetery, Findley Lake, N.Y.
