A. Irene Buchanan

She was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Tidioute, Pa., a daughter of the late Carl M. and Edna R. McGuckin Johnson.

An area resident since 1952, Irene graduated from Tidioute High School in 1940.

Before her retirement, she was employed by the Heritage Park Nursing Home for many years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and its Lael Fellowship Sunday School Class. She enjoyed her family, church, and in earlier years, camping.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Buchanan, a son, William Buchanan, both of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Timothy (Michelle) Loucks of Lockport, N.Y., William (Rita) Buchanan of Dickenson, Texas, Michele (Brian) Shoobridge of Warren, Pa., and Nicole Buchanan of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; five great-grandchildren: Marylynn Buchanan, Cooper Loucks, Lauren Buchanan, and Ian and Shawn Shoobridge; two sisters: Edith McKillip of Jamestown, and Ruth Jackson of Warren, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Lawrence Johnson, who raised her, and died in 1968; her husband, Clayton A. “Archie” Buchanan, whom she married Jan. 14, 1955, in the 1st Baptist Church, and who passed away Nov. 14, 2002; four brothers, Carl, Lawrence, William and John Johnson; and two sisters, Jane Bannister and Elizabeth Nicholson.

A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, April 23, 2016, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. James Read, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, will be officiating.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service, from 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
