Patricia P. Barger

RIPLEY – Patricia P. Barger, age 83, of Ripley, N.Y., died Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Home of Erie. Patricia was born on Nov. 10, 1932, in Petersburg, Va., the daughter of the late Nelson C. and Lena E. (Mitchell) Perkins.

A Ripley resident most all her life, Pat was a 1950 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Va. She met the love of her life, Donald E. Barger, Sr., while he was in the US Navy in Norfolk, Va. They married on Dec. 13, 1952 in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Barger was a member of the Ripley Presbyterian Church and had served her church as both Elder and Trustee. She retired after 18 1/2 years as the Business Manager of Ripley Central School in 1993. She greatly enjoyed her family and was passionate about watching her grandchildren’s ball games and sporting events. She spent many hours decorating her home with antique furniture that she herself had refinished. Pat enjoyed gardening and cooking. Following her retirement, Pat became enthusiastic about exercising and attended exercise classes at the YWCA of Harborcreek, Pa., as often as she could.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years: Donald E. Barger, Sr.; her three daughters: Terry (Kerry) Woody of Milwaukee, Wis., Robin Barger of Lancaster, Calif., and Melissa (James) Flynn of Fairview, Pa., and their son, Donald E. “Ed” (Patti) Barger, Jr. of Westfield, N.Y. Pat enjoyed being the proud grandmother of; Ryan and Evan Woody, Hillary Pattison, Laura Luke, Rachel McWherter, Lily, Eli and Trey Flynn. She is further survived by her nine wonderful great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Thomas Earl Barger, and infant granddaughter, Leslie Jane Barger, and also by her nephew, Earl Gordon Maggio.

Friends are invited to call at the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley, 20 W. Main St., Ripley, N.Y., on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, from 1-3 p.m. and again from 5-7 p.m. The funeral services will be held there on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Phil Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Rural Cemetery.
