Dennis H. James

Dennis H. James, 67, of 3058 Belews St., Indian Land, S.C., formerly of Bemus Point, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Janice James; daughter Jody (Chase) Thompson and granddaughter Madeline James Thompson, of Indian Land, S.C.; two sisters, Judy Matteson of Westfield, N.Y., and Sue Johnson of New Port Richey, Fla.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barb and Rich Peterson of Trinity, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

Dennis was born on June 7, 1948, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Harvey and Jennie James. He was a 1966 graduate of Maple Grove High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Dennis worked as a skilled craftsman and was a member of the Empire State Carpenter’s Union Local 66 for 45 years. He was an active member of the Ellery Center VFW Post 557 and the Jamestown Ingjald Order of Vikings 65.

Dennis enjoyed golfing, woodworking, playing pickleball, and summers on Chautauqua Lake. He cherished the time spent with his family and dear friends in Bemus Point, and Casa Grande, Ariz.

A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held in the summer of 2016 in Bemus Point.
