Roy Fergueson Starr
Roy Fergueson Starr, 77, of 4797 Chautauqua Ave., Maple Springs, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior after a mighty 62-year long battle with diabetes on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, in UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa.
He was born Sept. 18, 1938, in Baldwin, Long Island, N.Y., a son of the late Howard F. and Ingrid M. Christiansen Starr. He was a graduate of Baldwin High School and attended Nyack College. Before retirement, he worked at the former Crescent Tool in quality control.
He was a member of Ellery Baptist church for the past 43 years. He enjoyed woodcarving and was a member of the Southern Tier Woodcarvers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Pickard Starr, with whom he would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Dec. 21, 2015; his son, Timothy R. F. Starr of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Lois Tickle of Charlottesville, Va.; his sister, Karlene “Kay” Kirk and her husband Robert of Fort Mill, S.C.; his brother, Howard F. “Buddy” Starr III and his wife Betty of Vero Beach, Fla.; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara “Bobbie” Starr Fortier, Ruth Ann Starr, and Martha Starr Ploth.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec., 22, 2015, in the Ellery Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Malanowski officiating. Burial will be immediately following in Bemus Point Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received in the Lind Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015
