Evelyn Crowe Carlson

MAYVILLE Evelyn Crowe Carlson, 88, of Mayville, died Wednesday (Dec. 16, 2015) at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 11, 1927, in Fredonia, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frank and Alice McGrath Crowe. She married Donald C. Carlson on Aug. 12, 1950. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Parochial School, Fredonia Central High School, and the State University of New York at Fredonia. Evelyn taught school at Philip Sheridan Elementary in Kenmore, N.Y., and retired from the former Mayville Central School. She formerly volunteered at Westfield Memorial Hospital and the Mayville Food Pantry. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. She and her husband were season ticket holders for many years.

Evelyn was a 25-year member of Independent Order of Vikings Ingjald 65. She was also a member of St. Mary of Lourdes R.C. Church in Mayville. For many years, she and her husband enjoyed spending the months of February and March in St. Simons Island, Ga.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Frances Carlson of Mayville and Mary (Bill) Marshall of Corte Madera, Calif.; a son, Andrew (Dana) Carlson of Muscatine, Iowa; two grandchildren, Caleb and Chelsea Carlson of Muscatine, Iowa; and a brother, Alvin “Mac” (Audrey) Crowe of Silver Creek, N.Y.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Janice Crowe Woodcock.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday (Dec. 22, 2015) at St. Mary of Lourdes Mayville parish site. Rev. Todd Remick will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. Parking for the funeral will be on Vista Drive or on Elm Street. Assistance for parking can be received by going to the small driveway on the west side of the church.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday (Dec. 21, 2015) at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.
