Mary Abram McNeight Marsh

Mary Madeline Abram McNeight Marsh, 93, died Nov. 7, 2015, at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Sterling Heights, Mich.

Mary resided in Sterling Heights for the past 50 years. Mrs. Marsh was born in Brocton on July 6, 1922, to Clarence and Eveline McGrath Abram. A graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central High School, she put herself through Fredonia State Teacher’s College and graduated with a degree in education in 1944.

She was married to Harry D. McNeight of Cassadaga for almost 30 years. During that time as the wife of CWO McNeight she lived in Maryland, Texas, Oklahoma and West Germany. Harry retired from the military in 1964 and they moved to Sterling Heights, Mich., where she attended Macomb County Community College and was awarded a degree in Library Technical Assistance. Mary worked at the Utica Public Library, Utica, Mich., for a number of years and was an active polling station worker.

Harry died in 1973 and in 1977 Mary married Edwin A. Marsh gaining three stepsons, Hal, Ed Jr. and Rick Marsh. During her 25 years of marriage to Ed they traveled extensively throughout the United States and maintained homes in Sterling Heights, Mich., and Candlelight Park, Fla.

Mrs. Marsh is survived by her son, Tom (Joyce) McNeight of Atlanta, Ga., and daughter Dr. Mary Kay McNeight of Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers, Richard Abram of Fredonia, David Abram and sister Kathleen Zembryski both of Cassadaga. Mary was preceded in death by husbands Harry D. McNeight and Edwin A. Marsh, sons Joseph W. McNeight and William P. McNeight, twin brother John (Jack) Abram, brothers Bill, Everett “Bud” and Donald Abram and sister Beverly Abram Busch.

Mary was known by many names to her family such as “Marnie”, “Gram”, “Grandma Mary”, “Aunt Mary Marsh” but most famously “Bacca”. She was proud of her status as a military wife, was passionately patriotic and an avid supporter of U.S. Military veterans. Mary could be found in front of the television every night at 7:30 p.m. watching “Jeopardy”. She read multiple newspapers, worked the associated crossword puzzles daily and was an avid letter writer.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity R.C. Church, 1020 Central Ave., Dunkirk. A visitation will be held at Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, 4-7 p.m. on Friday. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery, Cassadaga.
