Michael D. Brake

Michael D. Brake, 64, of Buffalo Street Ext., James-town, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday (Oct. 27, 2015) in his home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Nov. 27, 1950, in Jamestown, the son of the late James and Suzanne Drake Brake.

Mike was a 1970 graduate of Falconer High School and graduated from Buffalo State College with a degree in education. He was employed by Erie 2 Chautauqua Cattaraugus BOCES, teaching carpentry for 30 years and retiring in 2008.

He was a member of Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, Sons of the Samuel Derby Post, American Legion in Frewsburg, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, New York State Teachers Association, Sisters Club and was a former member of the Lakewood Kiwanis.

Mike enjoyed wood-working and was proud of all the projects and kitchen cabinet projects he accomplished over many years. He was always designing his next project on paper and had many unfinished creations. He especially liked working with oak.

Surviving are his companion, Janette Coleson; two daughters: Allison and Stephanie Brake, both of Jamestown; a grandson, Robbie; a sister, Pamela (Carter) Frazier of Bountiful, Utah; three brothers: Pat (Karen) Brake of Raymore, Missouri, Sean and Brian Brake of Jamestown; a sister-in-law, Leanna Brake of Honolulu, Hawaii; and Uncle Ronald (Yvonne) Brake of Jamestown. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews, including his favorite, Michelle (Rick) Brown, and his beloved dog and constant companion, Sadie May.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Dan Brake, and a sister, Rebecca Sue Brake.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Saturday, in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church. Rev. Joseph Janaczek, pastor of the church, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 6-8 p.m., Friday, in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Altar and Rosary Society of OLL will conduct a rosary service at 5:30 p.m., Friday, in the funeral home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
