Arthur Lee Anderson

Arthur Lee Anderson, 76, of Ocala, Fla., passed away peacefully in his home on Oct. 7, 2015. He was born March 16, 1939, in Silver Creek, N.Y., the son of the late Kenneth O. Anderson and Edith Perkins Anderson. Art was a resident of Gerry, N.Y., most of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and was immediately employed by Weber Knapp Co. of Jamestown through 1996. In 1971, Art’s Gun Shop was established as a hobby and was open evenings and Saturdays. The Gun Shop became full-time from 1996 through 2001. Art’s Gun Shop served shooting enthusiasts for 30 years. Art’s sense of humor was an asset in business as well as everyday life. He was a man of integrity, a hard worker, conscientious as well as being a sentimental, loving, family man. Another of Art’s passions was Dodge trucks and country music. He enjoyed visiting the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., on occasion.

Art served on the Town of Gerry Planning Board and was a member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Other memberships included Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and past member of Ellington Rod & Gun Club, The Vikings, Jamestown Pistol Club and Safari Club International. He was a member of the NRA and served as an NRA Certified Gun Safety Instructor while operating Art’s Gun Shop. He enjoyed outdoor sports, horseback riding, shooting, snow shoeing, hunting (especially with his son-in-law, Dave and son, Scott on Scott’s farm in Ky.) While traveling throughout the United States by motor home, he fell in love with the west, especially South Dakota, where he often joked about moving.

Art was a loving husband for over 55 years, marrying his high school sweetheart, Donna Wooley, on June 25, 1960. They have two children. They attended Gerry Free Methodist Church and Gerry United Methodist Church until relocating to Oak Run Community in Ocala, Fla., in 2001. Ocala Word of Faith, now Meadowbrook Church, soon became their new church home. Art was a member of the Oak Run Shooting Sports Club, where he enjoyed handgun and skeet shooting. He also belonged to the Upstate New York Club, Ocala Draft Horse Club and Meadowbrook Church.

Art is survived by his loving wife, Donna and their two children. His No. 1 daughter, Jodie L. John-son (David Johnson) of Hamlin, N.Y., and his favorite son, Scott A. Anderson of Scottsville, Ky; five very special grandchildren, Seth and Tyler Johnson of Hamlin, N.Y., and Nicole Anderson of Raleigh, N.C., and Kyle and Travis Anderson of Charlotte, N.C., all of whom he was very proud. He was also survived by a precious great-grandson, Elliot Anderson of Charlotte, N.C.; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Butcher and several nieces and a nephew.
