Lawrence “Larry” Wellington Kunkel
Lawrence “Larry” Wellington Kunkel, 85, passed away Aug. 11, 2015, at his home in Collierville, Tenn., with his eldest daughter, Kathleen and her family by his side.
Larry was born Aug. 14, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to Lawrence Kunkel (Mexico, Mo.) and Thelma McCarter Kunkel (Lees Summit, Mo.), and had an older sister, Lois Jean Jewell of Chicago, Ill. His parents and his sister preceded him in death.
Larry grew up in Chicago, Ill. After high school, he received his bachelor’s degree in fire insurance from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Ill. He then served in the U.S. Navy, followed by a long and distinguished career as president of Empire State Mutual Life Insurance Company.
During his younger years, Larry enjoyed tennis, bridge, was very social and dedicated to supporting and attending his children’s many hobbies and interests. Later in life, Larry received much joy and fulfillment from be-longing to Grace Evangeli-cal Church, particularly en-joying his Christian Men’s weekly breakfast gatherings.
He married Vivian Schnering in 1951, and together they had three children. Larry is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Roy) Williams of Collierville, Tenn., his son, Glenn (Terri) Kunkel of Saugatuck, Mich., and his daughter, Laura (Dan) Carnevale of Sarasota, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Ben-jamin Williams of Collier-ville, Tori Kunkel, Taylor Kunkel and Ryan Kunkel of Saugatuck, Mich., Josh Kunkel of Miami, Fla., and Jessica Carnevale and David Lawrence Carnevale of Sarasota, Fla.
Lind Funeral Home will be providing the burial service Monday, Aug. 17, at 9 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown, N.Y.
