L. Dawn Weishan

CATTARAUGUS, N.Y. L. Dawn Weishan, 87, of Otto Road, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, N.Y.

She was born Nov. 24, 1926, in Salamanca, N.Y., the daughter of the late Richard and Minnie (Fish-er) Fox and was raised by her grandmother, Cora Town, after her mother’s passing.

Mrs. Weishan was a member of the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for 65 years, a member of Cattaraugus Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary and the Cattaraugus Civic League. She was an avid gardener, Euchre player, volunteered at the Trading Post South and Meals on Wheels and loved the casino. She was awarded as Citizen of Year in the town of New Albion.

On Dec. 1, 1945, she married Robert J. Weishan, who predeceased her in 2002. She is survived by two sons: Michael (Eileen) Weishan of Cattaraugus, N.Y., and Peter (Kathy) Weishan of Salamanca, N.Y.; and three grandchildren: Kevin Weishan, Casey Welch and Jay Weishan; and six great–grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Mentley Funeral Home Inc. 411 Rock City St. in Little Valley, N.Y., on Tuesday June 17, 2014, from 4-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. from Cattaraugus United Methodist Church at the corner of Washington and South Street, with the Rev. Daniel Carr officiating.

Burial will be in Liberty Park Cemetery in Cattaraugus, N.Y.

Memorials may be made to the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church or the Cattaraugus Ambulance Fund.

In accordance to her wishes, there will be a fire-works display at Liberty Park Cemetery that evening at 9:45 p.m.
