Robin M. Giles

CONEWANGO VALLEY – Robin M. Giles, 57, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Friday, April 25, 2014, at her home on Oak Street in Conewango Valley, N.Y.

She was born Nov. 11, 1956, in Warren, Pa., the daughter of Jack and Donna (Phillips) Wert.

Robin retired due to health issues from Jamestown Community College as the administrative assistant for the Nursing Department and an adjunct instructor for the medical office technology program where she had worked for 30 years.

Robin was a life member of the Pine Valley Ladies Auxiliary, Cherry Creek, and served as auxiliary president for eight years.

She also served as Chautauqua County president for two years and received President of the Year and District President of the year. She also served as a state Buddy Poppy and publicity chairman. Robin was elected as state president at the 87th Ladies Auxiliary State Convention, June 16, 2012, in Albany, N.Y.

She was also actively involved with the Chautauqua County Secretary’s Association, and a member of the South Dayton American Legion and Military Order of the Cooties.

In her spare time she and Frank would manage the canteen at their post or you could find them riding their motorcycle or cruising around in one of their antique cars.

She is survived by her husband, Frank F. Giles, whom she married on Sept. 16, 1989, of Conewango Valley, N.Y.; her mother, Donna Wert Jenks of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son, Scott (Melissa) Giles of Cherry Creek, N.Y.; three daughters: Kelly (Shawn) Savaree of Jamestown, N.Y., Tammy (Kevin) Perkins of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Stacey (Garrett) Pfleuger of Conewango Valley, N.Y.; seven grandchildren: Jayde, Emily, Trenton, Preston, Grace, Alexis and Tyler; and her two sisters: Liz Dunn of Tiona, Pa., and Darla Chase of Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Wert; her two brothers: Keith Kochler and Johnny Wert; and her stepmother, Katie Wert.

Visitation will be held at the Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton, N.Y., on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel. Pastor Thomas Maynard will be officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery in Ellington.
