Harry Klein

Harry Klein, 93, of Jamestown, much-loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend to many, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa., surrounded by his wife, three sons, daughter-in-law and grandson.

A Jamestown resident since 1951, he was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Bronx, N.Y., a son of the late Louis and Fannie Dahlberg Klein.

Harry was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving from Aug. 4, 1942 to Jan. 21, 1946, during World War II.

Before his retirement years, he was a prominent business owner for more than 40 years, having owned and operated the former Lucies Women’s Clothing Store and earlier the former Jamestown Fur Company.

Harry was a very active member of the community where he supported youth sports as a board member for Little League Baseball and was very active as president of the Temple Hesed Abraham Men’s Club, and was instrumental in the success of the annual sportsman dinner for many years.

He was also an avid golfer, where he was a member of the Moon Brook Country Club. His greatest joy as a golfer was winning the annual Italian-American Charity Golf Classic with his dear friend, Sam Restivo.

Surviving are his wife the former, Shirley Hershkowitz, whom he married Nov. 23, 1950; his three sons: Michael D. (Susan) Klein of Denver, Colo., Richard A. (Sue) Klein of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Joel S. (Abby) Klein of Williston, Vt.; five grand-children: Amy E. Klein of Seattle, Wash., Niki E. Klein and Ashley L. Klein, both of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Dani R. Klein and Josh A. Klein, both of Williston, Vt.; a sister, Betty Haber of Florida; and a brother, Sid Klein of Florida.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Paula Rosner and Jenny Gaber.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, in the Lind Funeral Home. Rabbi Allen Podet will officiate. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Jamestown.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in the funeral home.
