Robert E. Wetzel
Robert E. Wetzel, 77, of Erie, died on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at his residence. He was born in Erie, Pa., on April 25, 1936, the son of the late James S. and Irene Coudriet Wetzel.
He graduated from Academy High School in 1955, and served in the U.S. Army from 1959-62.
He worked at Young Brothers Electronics, Armstrong Cork Company and retired from Conrail in middle management.
He was a member of the Corry Veterans of Foreign Wars, Pulaski Club, Siebenbuerger Club, Loyal Order of Moose-Westfield Lodge and was a life member of American Legion Post 742 in Fairview.
He loved watching sports and was a devoted Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting at his family camp of 50 years, “Hilltop Camp.”
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a grandson, Kenneth “Kip” Heeter; a sister, Catherine Mando; a brother, James Wetzel; his former wives: Helen Wetzel and Beverly Wetzel; and his beloved canine companion, Ripley.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Barbara Riedesel Wetzel, whom he married May 28, 1993. at the First United Methodist Church of Westfield; his daughter, Mary (Joseph) Winans of Corry, Pa.; stepchildren: Brett (Kerry) Lewis, Sallie (Mike) Lewis and Darlene (David) Hill, all of Erie, and Marcie Badners of Alabama; 10 grandchildren: Abigail Winans, Rebecca Winans, Zachary Lewis, Zane Lewis, Cindy Duffley, Carrie Jones, Michael Mayorga, Terry Toland, Mindy Winans and Casey Winans; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home Inc. 2502 Sassafras St., Erie, Pa., on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and are invited to attend a funeral service there on Monday at noon with the Rev.
