The Strong Spine Chiropractic has moved from its former Harrison Street location to a new office at 7 Rugby Place.
The move allows the husband and wife owned business to expand both customer and building wise as their business continues to grow.
Strong Spine Chiropractic is owned by Kevin Strong and Rosalie Betts. The pair opened at their new location back in June, and things have been going well for them since. The business accepts multiple different insurances, including workers comp, personal injury and most major insurances such as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
"We do a lot of different modalities besides just adjusting," Betts said. "A lot of people think chiropractic is just 'crack them and send them out the door'. We spend a lot more time with patients here. It's kind of what we're known for at this point."
Strong said their practice focuses a lot on time spent with patients, and they do a lot of things such as spinal decompressions and various adjustments. Betts also works a lot with expectant moms, with a pregnancy specific focus. Strong started the business about three years ago, and then Betts joined the practice to make it officially Strong Spine Chiropractic LLC at the beginning of the year. This also led to the pair choosing to move from Harrison Street earlier this year to the new location.
"We were growing very quickly so we purchased this place and we renovated it and moved up here on June 1," Strong said. "We're still currently under construction. Patient areas, treatment, everything like that is covered and good but there are certain administrative rooms that are still under construction."
Patient related equipment and supplies have been purchased and are brought in and ready as well. Strong noted that the pair had a good situation at their old building, where they leased space with Jamestown Chiropractic. For size reasons things began to not work out there, especially as the business was growing so quickly. Strong added they did not expect to grow as much and fast as they did, actually expecting it to slow down, and once Betts joined the practice they did not have the room there that was needed anymore.
The old space had two treatment rooms, with six rooms in the new space, though Strong said only four are really utilized because that is all they need.
"We've always wanted to own our own building and facility and be able to do things exactly as we want," Strong said. "We couldn't remodel the old building how we saw fit, and this one we can."
Some parts of the building are rented per diem to organizations such as the VA and other medical specialties or providers that need rental office space. This is usually only three or four days a month and there is a special office space set up for them.
As the pair have gotten going in the new building, Betts said things have been going well, with the practice continuing to grow.
"We love this general area a little better than the other, it's just a lot quieter up here, noise on the street wise," Betts said. "We're very happy here. We've changed things to how we wanted them to be and I think it's a lot more reflective of who we are."
Additionally, Strong said they were very happy with the contractors and everyone who helped work on the building. They have also enjoyed meeting other local small businesses along the way that have helped them, and Strong said while it has not been without challenges it has been worth it.
A lot of people come to visit chiropractors, and Strong said like any business some have better outcomes than others. For them, he said, their approach seems to have a tendency to capture more people, as they do more than just adjustments but also include thorough exams, and the pair takes their time to make sure they are addressing the right complaints, and then the treatment plans change beyond that.
"I'll also add, based on what patients have told me as feedback, they like to feel heard and that we actually listen to them," Betts said. "We take our time and try to figure out what's going on and not just to get them out the door as quickly as we can."
Strong and Betts would like people to know that they exist and are here for them, and that they are always accepting new patients. No matter how much the business continues to grow, that is something they said will not change and they plan to add another provider in the future as well. They plan to continue to expand, add more modalities, and different treatment options. Their dog also comes into the business on Thursdays, but is behind a baby gate for anyone who does not like dogs.
