A fire caused extensive damage to a vacant, condemned home at 433 Allen St. in Jamestown on Thursday night.
The Jamestown Fire Department was dispatched to the two-and-a-half-story wood-frame residence at 10:44 p.m. following a 911 call reporting that the house was on fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire involvement on the first floor, with flames spreading to the second floor, attic and roof area.
Water was applied to the fire within minutes of firefighters’ arrival, and crews continued the exterior attack until most of the fire was knocked down. The building sustained heavy fire damage throughout the first and second floors, as well as the attic and roof area. However, the structure remained intact and was not considered in danger of imminent collapse.
The fire department reported no concerns about the fire spreading to nearby properties. Twelve off-duty firefighters were called to assist with the incident and provide coverage for other emergency calls in the city.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation. Fire crews returned to service at 3:40 a.m. Friday.
