KIANTONE – Carlberg Farms used to be a small farm stand on the side of the road, and that farm stand has now grown into a store.
The ribbon was cut on the store on Wednesday. Carlberg Farms is owned by Ginny and Eric Carlberg, and Ginny Carlberg said they and their family have been farming for about seven or eight years.
"Every step of the way we have been blessed with loyal and excited customers," Carlberg said. "So, we needed to expand. We started off with a little roadside wagon ... and we are standing now in front of our new farm stand."
The new farm stand or store is inside what used to be a dairy barn, bought by the Carlberg family about seven or eight years ago. Carlberg said the new, larger space makes it easier for people to shop and adds additional parking as parking was beginning to be an issue in the smaller space.
"So we can handle more people at a time, carry more products, and we're really excited to see you guys come check it out," Carlberg said.
In attendance to congratulate the Carlbergs on their official opening were County Legislator Dalton Anthony, who was also representing Senator George Borrello, and Missy Paterniti, representing both Congressman Nick Langworthy and Assemblyman Andrew Molitor.
"This just goes to show how many loyal customers you do have, from Dan to the people in Frewsburg to the people in Jamestown, everybody comes here," Paterniti said. "To walk in and see what you have from the roadside to now is just amazing."
Dan Heitzenrater with the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the chamber's board, as well as a vendor at Carlberg Farms, were also in attendance and offered their own congratulations to the Carlberg family. Heitzenrater also acknowledged the growth of the space from the original farm stand to now, and emphasized the importance of supporting and purchasing from local farms.
"You can come down and support local and get your local meat, local eggs, local produce, whatever the season calls for," Heitzenrater said. "This space is a testament to the product and the hospitality that you guys show."
