JMI Concrete in Falconer will have a hiccup in its operations, but Friday's fire won't put a permanent crimp in the company's plans.
The company said via Facebook over the weekend that a fire that destroyed its service garage at the 1946 New York Ave., Falconer, facility didn't affect the company's plant in Falconer. The plant is expected to be operational quickly with minimal disruption to customers.
"It was expected to be an exciting day at JMI Concrete in Falconer today, but the unfortunate events put quite a damper on the day," JMI officials said late Friday. "As you likely are aware, we had a fire in one of our maintenance facilities at our Falconer location. Thankfully, no one was injured. No damage was done to the plant itself, however, our electricity supply to the plant was affected. We expect it to be fully operational as early as Monday next week. We have three additional plants in Olean, Dunkirk and Warren within reach to support our Falconer operations. Hopefully it's understandable that we may run a bit slower than normal, but we are committed to service our customers."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office. Firefighters from Falconer were assisted by Gerry and Celoron firefighters. Gerry established a water supply on the Work Street side of the building, ran two handlines, and supplied Celoron’s ladder until the fire was knocked down. Jamestown Board of Public Utilities crews, the Chautauqua County Technical Rescue team and Ellicott police officers.
"It would be impossible to thank everyone who has assisted or reached out offering to help," JMI officials said in their Facebook post. "It just reminds us of the fantastic community we live in. We do have to give special thanks to all the volunteer fire departments that responded. You men and women rock! No pun intended. To our incredible employees that always step up when the pressure is on, there are no words to express our gratitude. You are the best."
Company officials also said a new group of mixer trucks have been purchased to provide materials to customers more quickly. They were unaffected by the fire.
