\A local car club will host a day to provide food for the hungry in Jamestown.
Team Diversity, a car club rooted in Jamestown, will host 'Hot Dogs for Hunger' from 4 to 7 p.m. today, or until supplies run out, in the parking lot of the Jamestown Cycle Shop and Jock Shop, 10 Harrison St..
"We wanted to do one more community event – before the winter time," said Bethany Pigman, club president. "Our car club is all about serving the community, making connections, and helping out where we can."
The club's mission is to help the community by bridging gaps in resources, offering hands-on assistance and fostering a supportive network for all while sharing a love and passion for cars. Pigman said the club has set some lofty goals for the near future.
"One of our primary goals is to establish a prehabilitation and rehabilitation center in Jamestown," she said.
The club aims to host various events that promote community engagement and plans to transition into a nonprofit organization by pursuing formal designation as a 501(c)(3) entity. The club would also like to offer post-rehab support by helping individuals transition after participating in a rehabilitation program.
The club leadership consists of Hector Guevara, founder/president; Dawn Whitford, treasurer; Liz Murphy, secretary; Tim and Christina Dorrell; and Jon Williams, member coordinator.
Pigman said the upcoming hot dog giveaway has revived support from various local businesses.
"Three local businesses have donated," she said. "The Jock Shop/Cycle Shop donated the use of their parking, along with Johnny's Lunch, Panama Reds II, and the Taco Company."
