BUSTI -- A number of years ago the Busti Fire Department held an annual Gala Days event, and while it has been a few years, the event is set to make a triumphant return this year during the second weekend of September.
The Gala Days will be from September 10 to 12 at the Busti Fireman's Grounds, 3476 Lawson Road, Jamestown. The three-day event includes carnival rides, games, music and more, with something different available each day.
Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 10, the carnival opens at 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Old Dawg Bluegrass band will be playing from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and World 100 from Eldora begins at 8 p.m. There will be a different bluegrass band performing each day with Friday's band being Smokin' 45, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday's band Two For Flinching performing from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Carnival rides and games are being done by Knox Great American Midway, and food will be available from both the carnival and the Busti Women's Auxiliary.
A Dice Run is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. with pre-registration and registration on the day of, available. Carnival hours run from 5 to 10 p.m. on Sept. 10 and 11 and on Saturday, Sept. 12 there will be a matinee session from noon to 5 p.m. and then 6 to 10 p.m. A full schedule of events and more information can be found at bustigaladays.com.
Mike Voty with the Busti Fire Department said that this will be the first time the fire department has held the Gala Days event in a number of years. He said people should expect rides, games, music, a carnival, a dice run, a Chinese Auction, and a family-oriented event.
"This will be a family-oriented event with a fun atmosphere for all ages," Voty said. "It's a carnival but they make sure there's something for everybody. Each day they will have to get a wristband, but the wristband covers all of Friday, all of Saturday. For the matinee there will be one wristband and the second session will have a second wristband. There will be rides, games, food, and fun."
Camping is also available for the event, with a limited number of camp sites.
Voty said people should be interested in coming out to the event for a fun way to spend the weekend, that will include carnival rides and games for kids, music for the adults, and craft vendors as well. The event is to benefit the Busti Fire Department for their daily operations and to help purchase and update their equipment.
"Come join us for a fun-filled weekend," Voty said.
