The city Department of Development has been continuing to work with housing demolition contractors. City Council members were recently updated on the progress.
Kacie Foulk discussed demolitions with members of the Housing Committee on Monday. Councilwoman Hannah Jaroszynski, D-Ward 5 and Housing Committee chairwoman, said during the full council’s work session that two demolitions were recently completed. Additionally, Jarosynski said questions were raised about condemnations and the criteria for those.
“I think really every case is so different that it’s just best that if people do have questions on criteria for condemnations to call the DOD directly with their specific case,” Jarosynski said.
It was also noted that 13 of the demolitions on the list had been done through ARPA funding, with four on deck still through ARPA funding. 15 are through the Land Bank Initiative and 13 are pending.
“So things are definitely moving along with that list for demolitions,” Jarosynski said.
One of the recent demolitions done in the city was a home on the corner of Willard and Allen Street that was damaged by a fire in 2023, which has also been discussed by the housing committee in the past.
