CHAUTAUQUA — A bicyclist has died after an accident last week on Chautauqua-Stedman Road, law enforcement officials reported Monday.

At 12:55 p.m. Thursday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, Chautauqua Fire Department, and Chautauqua County Emergency Services responded a reported motor vehicle accident involving a bicycle. An investigation found the operator of the vehicle, Levi J Graham, 19, of Ashville, failed to safely pass a bicyclist while traveling south.

The bicyclist was identified as Mary V. Hustead, 78, of Chautauqua. Hustead was flown from the scene by Mercy Flight to UPMC Hamot in Erie. She later died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

Graham was charged with New York State Vehicle and Traffic section 1122-A for failing to safely pass a bicyclist. He will answer the charge later in town court.
