A pair of Jamestown residents have been charged in a shooting that took place early Saturday in the town of Busti.
At 4 a.m., officers from the Lakewood-Busti Police Department were dispatched to Cummins Engine for a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult female who had sustained a gunshot wound. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was transported and later airlifted to UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., for further medical treatment.
The subsequent investigation determined that the shooting incident occurred at a residence on Big Tree Road in the town of Busti.
As a result of the investigation, Anthony V. Rivera, 20, and Alexander J. Jewell, 34, both of Jamestown, were taken into custody at a later time. It is alleged that both subjects were involved in the incident and have been charged with first-degree attempted assault, first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Anthony Rivera
Both individuals were transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment processing.
The Lakewood-Busti Police Department was assisted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Jamestown Police Department. The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
Rivera was charged by Jamestown police twice last year in the span of about two months. In June, Rivera was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon after officers conducting a GIVE Probation detail responded to a residence on the north side for a probation check. During the investigation, they discovered that Rivera allegedly had a large-capacity feeding device along with a number of bullets.
In April 2025, Rivera was charged with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer, resisting arrest and DWI at 12:34 a.m. Thursday after city police responded to a reported fight on the city’s west side. Upon arrival, officers reportedly saw a motor vehicle flee from the curbside of where the alleged fight occurred. Officers attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver failed to comply, instead allegedly leading police on a short chase before hitting a curb. The vehicle then came to a stop in the yard. The driver, identified as Rivera, then allegedly tried to run from officers, leading a brief foot chase before he was caught.
