Allan was signed to Decca Records in 1996 and he made his country music debut with the release of his single “Her Man”, the first single from Allan’s debut album, Used Heart for Sale. That album would later be certified gold. Allan’s second album, It Would Be You, was released in 1998. Allan was then signed to MCA Nashville, which has released the rest of Allan’s albums. His first album on the new label, Smoke Rings in the Dark, was Allan’s first platinum album featuring the hits “Lovin’ You Against My Will”, and “Right Where I Need to Be”, which respectively reached number 12, number 34 and number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. “Right Where I Need to Be” was Allan’s first Top 5 country hit and his third Top 10.
Smoke Rings in the Dark was followed with Alright Guy in 2001 and See If I Care in 2003, both certified platinum. Allan’s 2005 album Tough All Over, a greatest hits compilation and the 2007 release Living Hard were all certified gold and set the stage for Allan’s career to reach new heights with Get Off on the Pain (2010) and Set You Free (2013). Both albums reached the Top 10 on the U.S. Billboard Top Country Albums charts, at numbers 2 and 1 respectively.

Allan told the Associated Press in 2010 that his country music roots run through Willie Nelson and The Highwaymen.
“(Rock ‘n’ roll is) kind of what I grew up on,” Allan told the AP. “I think when it really changed, when country became like rock for me, was during the Highwaymen tour. I saw that when I was like 14 or 15. That was with Waylon (Jennings) and (Kris) Kristofferson, Willie (Nelson) and Johnny Cash. I was just blown away by that, by people just singing truth. No jumping around, not a lot of production. Just four dudes up there just singing to you. And it was very cutting to me. And I think that’s when I knew this was what I wanted to do.”
Atkins was signed to Curb Records in 1996 and charted his first single on the Billboard country chart in 1997. He didn’t release a full album until 2003 when he released Honesty, which included the hit single “Honesty (Write Me a List)”. Atkins’ second album, If You’re Going Through Hell, was released in 2006. The first two singles Atkins released – “If You’re Going Through Hell (Before the Devil Even Knows)” and “Watching You” – each spent four weeks at number one the country music chart. If You’re Going Through Hell has since been certified platinum in the United States and produced the number one singles “These Are My People” and “Cleaning This Gun (Come On In Boy)”. It’s America (2009) included the number one single “It’s America” and the Top 5 hit “Farmer’s Daughter”, which was added to a later reissue of the album. Take a Back Road (2011) produced Atkins’ sixth number one hit with “Take A Back Road” while Atkins’ 2019 album, Caught Up in the Country, set a record for the longest run on the country singles charts with its title track. Atkins has received six nominations from the Academy of Country Music and two from the Country Music Association, winning Top New Male Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music in 2006.
