Falconer Dunkin’ Donuts On Hold

A planned Dunkin’ Donuts in Falconer is on hold.

During a recent Falconer Village Board meeting, Paul Capitano, Falconer code enforcement officer, told board members that a remodel permit for the restaurant, which is to be located in the former M&T Bank branch at 20 W. Main St. The M&T Bank location closed on June 10, 2021, with the property sold to Bapa 20 W. Main St. RE LLC of Horseheads for $325,000 in October 2024.

Members of the Falconer Planning Board had several questions about the project during a May 2025 meeting, including parking, safety and traffic flow, particularly for children and pedestrians in the area. Village codes only require 12 parking space for a building the size of the former bank building while the company is planning for 20 spaces.

Capitano’s recent report also said he had done a walk-through with contractors at 27-29 E. Main St. for the final phase of construction and waterhook up for building. It has been decided to connect water to the building from the line on Main Street.

The Fire Advisory Board met and is still negotiating with the insurance companies on the replacement value for the damaged ambulance. The department’s ambulance was taken out of commission in December while responding to a mutual aid call in Gerry. During this time the ambulance was transporting a patient. At around 4:30 a.m., while the ambulance was being driven by Greg P. Scott, 53, with county medic Walid Al-Jabiri, 44, located inside with the patient a Gerry plow truck backed back into the ambulance while it was traveling along Route 60.

Area departments responded to Falconer ambulance calls from December through February until the village’s new ambulance was put into service.

Mutual aid was received from the town of Gerry, Kiantone, Kennedy, ALSTAR EMS and the Chautauqua County EMS services fly cars. It took the fire department roughly a month to get the new ambulance approved for service after receiving the vehicle in February from a Michigan company.

In other business, board members approved the village’s 2026-27 budget. The village’s tax rate is projected to increase about 18 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Total spending in the budget so far is nearly flat, increasing about $200 to $1,829,482.

Village Board members also discussed a new gas line that will be needed for the generator that was installed at the Falconer Volunteer Fire Department Fire Hall. The additional cost was approved and will be funded from a V-Fire grant that was awarded to the department.

• A new eyewash station has been installed in the highway garage. The village’s contract with Cintas will expire at the end of 2026 and will not be renewed.
