FREWSBURG – Students in Frewsburg now have 30,000 more reasons to make a commitment to literacy.

The estate of Diane Benson, a former Frewsburg English Language Arts teacher, recently donated $30,000 to the Frewsburg Central School District to purchase more books for the middle/high school library.

Accepting the donation was Emily Spielman, Frewsburg Central School librarian. Spielman noted that Benson was an ELA teacher in the district from 1970 to 2006.

“She impacted a lot of people,” Spielman said. “Diane passed away last year, and in her will, she donated $30,000 to the high school library to purchase books.”

The librarian noted that some current faculty members had Benson as a teacher, and said how good she was at teaching.

“She obviously was a big lover of literature and books, and so we’re just really grateful that she thought of the school and particularly the library,” Spielman said.

Board President Mike LeBaron echoed Spielman’s thoughts.

“It’s a true testament of loyalty and caring from a teacher who dedicated her life and career to Frewsburg students to make this impressive donation. She leaves a legacy of commitment to literacy at Frewsburg. The community is truly grateful.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
