A suspect was in custody after a shooting in the village of Westfield that led to a chase into the north county on Saturday night in Pomfret and Van Buren.

The gunshot report came in around 7:30 p.m. at 140 W. Main St., Westfield.

After fleeing Westfield, the individual drove through Dunkirk and the town of Pomfret. A shelter in place was issued by the Fredonia Office of Emergency Management. They reported at 9:15 p.m. that the individual had been apprehended.

Westfield police reported the female victim was in stable condition and the suspect was brought into custody by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
