KENNEDY – An unfortunate diagnosis has recently left a Kennedy family devastated, as Steve Munday would discover that he is battling various forms of cancer.

Upon learning of this diagnosis, and with the help of a local charitable organization, Munday’s parents have been hard at work arranging a benefit to support their son during this terrible time. Munday’s parents hope that members of the community will be able to extend some help toward their son in this particularly rough time if they have the ability to do so.

Marie and Randy Munday have been working in collaboration with the Brothers By Choice, a local group of motorcycle enthusiasts dedicated to helping members of the community during life’s hardest challenges. Randay Muday noted the difficult process that his son has been through thus far, to even just get the diagnosis. Muday stated that when his son used to live right next door, Steve began to have little energy. When traveling to visit his sister in West Virginia, his son would fall ill, said Munday. This time the illness was so bad that Munday stated that his son would end up in the hospital for about one week. It would be during this stay that doctors would discover a malignant mass inside of Steve Munday’s colon, according to the elder Munday. A later return visit would also reveal a cancerous mass on his son’s lung, Munday stated. With so much unknown in this scenario, along with the high costs of travel and medical bills, the family is hoping that this benefit will be able to unite a strong rural community to support somebody in a time of need.

“I mean he is a fantastic worker, raising three kids on his own,” said Munday. “So hopefully we will get this done and he will come out like he was before.”

The benefit will be taking place on March 8, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m, and will be located at the American Legion in Celoron. Munday noted the wide variety of offerings at the benefit, which will likely ensure that anybody has a good time while supporting a great cause. There will be a spaghetti dinner, a bake sale, live entertainment, 50/50 ticket sales, and a Chinese auction.

Starting at $3.50/week.
