CLYMER — As the current year draws to a close the current school year continues on, but Clymer’s Building Principal, Brianne Fadale, is already looking towards some items to prepare for next school year, including the beginning of getting scheduling ready and a new course that the school will be required to implement.
During her report at the December Board of Education meeting, Fadale said they have begun working with the guidance counselor on some scheduling items for next year, including updating the course catalog. Letters will be going out to homes around January on the process so the guidance counselor can begin meeting with students.
“Something new that we have to incorporate, we have a financial literacy course that is required to be implemented starting next school year,” Fadale said. “From my understanding students need to have taken the course by the end of their middle school band and seven through 12 grade.”
Fadale said they are working to phase that into students’ schedules for next year, probably aiming to do that for junior and senior students as their schedules have a little more flexibility. The course is similar to one the school is already doing called Business Math, and Fadale said she believed it would be looking at things like loans.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a stretch for us to do it, it’s just a matter of how we build this into what we’re doing and making sure no one is slipping through the cracks,” Fadale said.
A second required course that is set to be implemented in two years is climate education, which students have to begin learning in Kindergarten through Fourth grade.
“So two new things coming down the pipe that we’re going to have to do,” Fadale said. “We teach science, so I feel like we already do that, but whatever, we will roll with it and we’ll make sure we’re on it.”
Fadale also included in her report that it is budget season and they are beginning to work on that for next year, and that the school is done with all of their fall time drills for the season, such as fire and lock down drills, until the weather breaks.
