Friday was a “party day” for residents of Hultquist Place, with a Christmas party in the afternoon that followed the 100th birthday celebration for resident Margret Ostrander earlier in the day.
Ostrander celebrated her birthday with her fellow Hultquist Place residents along with her children and family. Reaching 100 years old is something she said is special.
“It’s quite a milestone,” Ostrander said. “I’m thankful the Lord has kept me around this long. I don’t know why, but he does.”
There are a few things Ostrander said can be seen as her secret to living a long life. One such thing is laughing a lot, along with enjoying music and other things, working together, and keeping faith in God. Her birthday party that Hultquist Place staff put on for her she described as “fabulous”.
“The people at Hultquist Place did a beautiful job,” Ostrander said. “I never could’ve imagined it. I’ve been here for 10 and a half years, and I’m so happy this place is my home.”

While there are some things that Ostrander said she does not like about Hultquist Place, she said the same thing would be found anywhere as no place is perfect. For her, the likes very much outweigh the dislikes, and she said she tells anyone that Hultquist Place is the only place to go when someone can no longer do things on their own. Ostrander was very happy with her birthday party, made more special by the presence of her family.
“It’s great to have my family and children here,” Ostrander said. “People should appreciate their family, and I very much appreciate mine.”
