Warren resident charged with statutory sexual assault
A Warren resident faces four felony charges that include sexual contact with a student.
Megan R. Minich, 41, was charged Monday with first-degree statutory sexual assault: 11 years older; third-degree felony school – intercourse/sexual contact with a student; and two counts of third-degree corruption of minors – defendant age 18 or above. Bail was set at $50,000 unsecured by Magisterial District Court Judge Laura Bauer during arraignment on Monday. A preliminary hearing set for Dec. 3 has already been continued and rescheduled for Jan. 14.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the State Police at Warren was notified of three Childline Reports received by the Warren County District Attorney’s Office regarding a known youth alleging a teacher at the Tidioute Community Charter School had a sexual relationship with the youth. The complaint also alleges Minich gave the youth, who was 13 years of age at the time of the alleged incident in 2022, a large sum of money to keep the relationship a secret.
The youth appeared at the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center in early September for a forensic interview, telling police the alleged sexual contact began after a loss in his family in October 2022. The youth said Minich was his computer teacher and allegedly added the youth as a friend on Snapchat, where they began sending messages back and forth, as well as phone conversations. The youth said Minich let him spend “a great deal of time” in her classroom while making it clear, according to the affidavit, that Minich wanted to spend more time with the youth. The youth said Minich began touching him “weirdly”, believing it to be flirtatious behavior, while also alleging Minich sent him nude photographs on Snapchat. That allegation could not be confirmed because Snapchat doesn’t keep such data beyond 30 days, according to the affidavit.
The alleged sexual contact allegedly came with a request to help Minich’s children set up a trampoline and play with them. The youth alleges there was sexual contact between himself and Minich before he was molested. Police allege the incident took place on or about April 7, 2023, because the youth’s mother received a text message from Minich thanking her for allowing the youth to help at her residence and spend time with her children. At the time, Minich would have been 39 years old and the youth would have been 13 years of age.
The youth then testified that he had a conversation with Minich about the incident during which he allegedly told Minich that he was no longer going to keep the alleged sexual relations a secret.
“The victim stated he needed to get it off his chest and that he was going to tell someone what happened,” the affidavit states.
Minich allegedly told the youth she would harm herself if he told anyone. The affidavit states the youth provided a screenshot from a text message that corroborated his statement, though the youth didn’t disclose the relationship because he didn’t want Minich to harm herself. The youth then testified that Minich offered to pay the youth for his silence, saving up and opening a bank account with between $20,000 and $30,000 deposited. The youth was given a debit card to the account, according to the affidavit.
Police then held a second interview at the youth’s home to discuss the bank account. The youth said he believed Minich used the Tidioute Charter School’s computer program to gain access to the youth’s personal information to include his date of birth and last four digits of his Social Security number to open the account. A Post Office box was also opened at the Tidioute Post Office so bank statements could be sent. The affidavit details the bank account and debit card numbers. The account was opened in December 2024 and closed in August 2025 and at one point had $45,000 available for the youth.
