City Bakeries See Skyrocketting Donut Sales On Halloween

Halloween is a day that comes associated with sweet treats, and besides candy gathered from trick-or-treating for many this also means things like donuts, especially at two local bakeries in the city, Farm Fresh Foods and Ecklof Bakery, who saw donut sales skyrocket on Halloween.

“It’s already been record-breaking for us,” Michael Rios, Farm Fresh Foods Baker said. “We’ve sold over 300 dozen by 11 o’clock. We’re almost sold out, and we just want to thank city residents for their support this way.”

Rios said at Farm Fresh they had about 180 dozen donuts on order, with most of those gone already when talking with The Post-Journal on Halloween morning. He praised the work of his team at the bakery, saying things had never run so smoothly, and that he was very happy with both them and the amount of sales, adding that he could “hardly contain himself.”

“This is one of our biggest donut sale days of the year besides National Donut Day and Thanksgiving,” Rios said. “We’re a pretty small team and we work around the clock, and we’re always looking to keep bakeries alive. There used to be a lot more in the city but there’s only a few of us left.”

At Ecklof Bakery, the story is similar and owner Chad Ecklof said Halloween is always an “insane” day for donut sales. Specifically, he said their most popular donut is the apple cider fry cake and between the day before and when talking with The Post-Journal on Halloween morning the bakery had sold around 80 to 100 dozen donuts, and had turned the fryer back on to make some more.

“Everybody is looking to get donuts and coffee to have while they’re waiting for their child as they trick-or-treat,” Ecklof said. “It seems like when the weather turns and it gets colder that’s when donuts come to mind for people. Autumn makes donuts happen and October is a big donut month. Halloween puts people in that donut mood.”
