UPMC Chautauqua Names New President

Tracey Gates has been named the new president of UPMC Chautauqua.
Tracy Gates has been appointed president of UPMC Chautauqua effective Monday.
“Tracy brings more than two decades of leadership experience in hospital and health system operations to UPMC Chautauqua,” said Brian Durniok, current president, UPMC Chautauqua, president, UPMC Hamot and market president, UPMC, Northwest Pa. and Western New York. “Her career reflects a deep commitment to operational excellence, strategic growth, and community-focused care.”
Most recently, Gates served as senior vice president, chief operating officer, and vice president of System Integration for Centralus Health, a newly formed integrated delivery network in Upstate New York. While there, she oversaw operations across three hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities, while helping to lead the integration of Cayuga Health System and Arnot Health.
Prior to her tenure at Centralus Health, she held leadership roles at several other New York based hospitals and health systems.
“Tracy has successfully led initiatives in service line development, financial accountability, and workforce engagement,” Durniok said. “Her collaborative approach and results-driven mindset have consistently delivered high-level results across the organizations she has served; we look forward to her leadership at UPMC Chautauqua as we continue to advance our mission of providing high-quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve.”
Gates received both a Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Business Administration at Empire State College. She is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on many community focused and national committees and boards.
UPMC announced in December 2023 that it was searching for Durniok’s replacement after Durniok, who was named UPMC Chautauqua president in 2019, announced he had been named president of UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa. Durniok had been serving as interim president of UPMC Hamot and its 3,300 staff members since July 2023. His move followed the promotion of David Gibbons, who previously served as president of the Erie hospital network.
While serving as interim president in Pennsylvania, Durniok has continued in his role at UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown and UPMC Northwest in Venango County, Pa.
Durniok joined UPMC in 1995 as a director of human resources at UPMC Horizon in Pennsylvania. He served as vice president of human resources at UPMC Hamot, and later UPMC Northwest and UPMC Chautauqua, from 2013 to 2018.
He was appointed president of Jamestown’s hospital in January 2019 following the retirement of Betsy Wright.
