CLYMER — Visible progress is starting to be seen in the town of Clymer for their water system upgrade project with the arrival of water main pipes in the town park.

During the September meeting of the town board, Town Supervisor Brian Willink said that it was said at the last meeting the pipe was set to be delivered on the day after Labor Day, but in reality it showed up on Sept. 9, the day of the September meeting.

The pipe is now in and the company JD Northrup is constructing the pad for them to be set in at the town park, to be used to store six miles of water main pipes for the project. Highway Superintendent Scott Trisket said at the end of the project the town is able to make the decision if they want them to leave it or put it back.

It was noted that there was originally a worry with the Harvest Festival that was held in the town park at the beginning of the month if having the pipes there would cause any issues, which it did not as the pipes were delivered later than originally thought, but that there will most likely be issues with the town’s Tulip Festival next year.

“There’s no other real updates besides the pipe is starting to get delivered, so we’ll start to see some action here,” Willink said. “I don’t know when they’re thinking about starting.”

Trisket said he had not heard anything about when they would start either, but had heard that they needed to take all of the piping at one time and not just a little bit at a time, so all of the pipe would be there. The pipes will all go to the town park and other items like valves and fire hydrants will be at Lictus where there used to be a millings pile, along with a trailer to hold other things for the project.

It was noted that there are cameras down at the park as well that can see where the pipes will be. Trisket noted that the pipes would be difficult to steal or do anything with, though.

“These things are 20 feet long, or I’m guessing they’re 20 foot sections, and they’re steel so you’re not just going to grab it and walk away with it,” Trisket said.

Also for the water project, the town has gotten 119 meters in and there is a run-through of the new system set for Oct. 1. The town also briefly discussed costs as well, saying that they do have a $5 million grant for it but will probably still end up raising rates again for next year, or adjusting things like the water meter fee and moving to a quarterly water billing cycle, as was discussed in previous meetings.

Starting at $3.50/week.
