Centralized Jamestown Social Services Office Delayed

MAYVILLE – A proposal to move a number of Social Services offices in Jamestown to a central location has been delayed.

During the Chautauqua County Legislature meeting, a resolution for the county to rent 2,180 square feet on the third floor of the Jamestown Municipal Building on East Third Street for the county’s Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services was pulled.

After the meeting, Legislature Chairman Pierre Chagnon, R-Ellery, said the county is still planning on moving the offices, however the resolution that was prefiled was incomplete.

The county could have tabled it, but he said it was easier to remove it and then bring it back in the future.

“We will resubmit it next month,” Chagnon said.

The county’s Health Department already uses part of the third floor. Other departments planned to relocate there include the county’s mobile crisis, which is currently located in Warwick Plaza in the town of Ellicott, the newly funded Office of Mental Health Court Navigators, the new Care Coordinator, the county’s Homeless Unit, and possibly the new integrated Mental Hygiene-Social Services home base community outreach program.
