Sherri Shaw was the owner of Lori’s Kountry Kafe at 880 Foote Ave. when Shaw decided to enter partial retirement in April. Not all was lost for the restaurant though, as Shaw’s nephew, Lee Cain Jr., has stepped in and given the restaurant a new look, a new menu and a new name – Phattie’s. The restaurant relaunched on Aug. 22.

During the four-month closure, Cain made several updates to the location including a new outdoor seating area, refurbished slate tile flooring, a homemade wooden beam to accent the ceiling, and so much more. Cain said he has been able to transform the establishment from a breakfast diner into a wonderful lunch/dinner experience, giving a completely new feeling and experience even to previous customers of the establishment.

Phattie’s is also making an attempt to preserve a local piece of history in Jamestown with their new opening. The name pays homage to the original Phattie’s Subs that was originally located on Third Street and operated by Cain Jr.’s parents. The new location attempts to largely preserve favorites from the original Phattie’s menu while expanding to include burgers, fries, wraps, and even homemade ice cream.

Cain expressed his love and gratitude towards the community which has continued to show support towards the restaurant as it undergoes so much change. Cain detailed the complexity of this process, including a delay from the initial opening date and very short notice on their later allowance to open. Despite the challenges, Cain said he remained positive and was able to open this summer.
