Kiwanis Aids Salvation Army’s “Christmas in July”

Members of the Jamestown Kiwanis Club manned the Salvation Army Kettle at Walmart on July 24.

The Jamestown Kiwanis Club has assisted the Salvation Army for many decades with the traditional Christmas-time bell ringing. It was a new experience for the Kiwanians to ring the bells in 90-degree July weather instead of 10-degree December weather.

The Salvation Army strives to meet the needs of people year-round. The Jamestown Kiwanis Club also partners with the Salvation Army to put on a “Breakfast with Santa” annual Christmas party for 50 children and their families. The Salvation Army identifies the children who could benefit from receiving gifts provided by the Kiwanis Club but given to the children by Santa himself.

The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is marking its 105th Anniversary in Jamestown.

For its 75th anniversary in 1995 the Kiwanis Club adopted its mission statement: “The Jamestown Kiwanis Club is an organization of Community Leaders whose primary purpose is service to youth.”
