BUSTI- For many people, firefighters are the brave heroes who rush into burning buildings to rescue others and save lives. However, sometimes these rescuers need help themselves.

Jeremy Hasson, a volunteer firefighter with the Busti Volunteer Fire Department, is not only a first responder but also a devoted husband and father who has been fighting cancer. Hasson’s family and friends, as well as town and fire department officials, are lending a hand this weekend.

Jessie Robbins, Busti town supervisor, stated the Busti Volunteer Fire Department has organized a fundraising dice run to support Hasson and his family.

“August 29th and 30th, the Busti Fire Department will be hosting a 35-mile road rally dice run to raise money for one of our own, Jeremy Hasson and his family,” he said.

Robbins mentioned that registration for the event will take place on Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. Cash prizes will be given to the top two dice rolls, including a prize for the roll with the lowest score.

“There will be live music, food, games, and prizes,” said Robbins. “Beef on weck, hot dogs, nachos, and more, along with a DJ playing both Friday and Saturday.”

According to the fire department’s Facebook page, the event is set to take place at the Busti Fireman’s Grounds, 3476 Lawson Road. Participants are welcome to use ATVs, UTVs (Utility Terrain Vehicles), and SXSs (Side-by-Sides). Additionally, primitive camping will be offered for $50 per site from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 31. Check-in will begin at 3 p.m., with check-out required by 11 a.m. Restroom facilities will be available on-site; however, showers are not provided. Pre-registration costs $25 per person/operator. Children under 12 can attend for free when accompanied by a registered adult. Each person must be registered individually and sign a waiver, which will be available at check-in.

“This is a chance to support one of our own,” said Robbins.
