Continuing To Serve: New Pastor Named At Camp Street U.M.

Pastor Jackson

CHAUTAUQUA – The Rev. John Jackson wants to serve his new church in a great many ways.

Jackson recently stepped into the pastor role at Camp Street United Methodist, 110 Sanford Drive, Jamestown.

Jackson said he wants to keep things the same at the church.

“They’re a tremendous group, a very impressive group of people, very welcoming, very cohesive, very caring of each other and demonstrating qualities that I would not want to change,” Jackson said of the church’s worshippers.

He added that prior to him, the worshippers were without a pastor for six months and that their drive and commitment to make the church thrive during that period was impressive.

Before Jackson came to Camp Street U.M., he had served as pastor of North Harmony U.M.C., in Sherman. He has served and continues to serve the United Methodist Church in several conference and district level capacities and is involved with the Robert H. Jackson Center and the Ecumenical Community of Chautauqua.

He has also practiced law and was a mechanical engineer before he became a pastor. Jackson has been involved with the church for most of his life as a volunteer, Sunday School teacher, and was a trustee.

“I believe in God, and believe God has been very good to me, and I think he gave me some gifts that I can share, and I wanted to serve in that way, to see if I had things that could be beneficial to other people,” Jackson said.

On Sundays, according to campstreetumchurch.com, the worship service is at 9:45 a.m. while Sunday School is held at 10:45 a.m. The church’s website also said that live and past services are available on the church’s Facebook page.

“So there’s not much I’m going to want to change,” Jackson added. “I hope I can add some things that have me as a resource. Well, I hope I have some messages for them to add some experience, and to add service. I hope I can provide them with the role of a pastor and serve in a great many ways.”
