A Jamestown-based company has recently announced a groundbreaking invention which will serve to not only better protect its consumers, but also return an element of manufacturing to the local area.
Blake Robert McAffee, along with partners Deyn Stoll and David Cass, have founded B.I.R.T. Technology, a company based out of Jamestown that is attempting to revolutionize the power cords found in homes throughout the country.
The goal of this new cord is simple, to allow for easier replacement of the grounding prong or “third prong” on an extension cord. Their upcoming product will allow consumers to easily screw in a new ground prong whenever the existing one becomes damaged or loose without the need for any extensive knowledge on wiring or electrical. Their user-friendly design takes seconds to swap out and has a red line indicator on the replacement prongs, all one has to do is screw in the new prong past that red line and the repair is done.
McAffee became increasingly aware of the issue of missing or damaged ground plugs after repeatedly witnessing the struggle his mother would endure with damaged cords due to extensive and hard usage. McAffee and Stoll both noted the risk of using cords with missing or improper ground plugs, a risk many choose to ignore for a host of reasons. This product will prevent the need to choose between having to buy a new cord or risk continuing to use one without proper grounding.
Safety is not the only problem B.I.R.T. Technology wishes to address their product, they also hope to serve as an inspiration to many in the area to take their economic destiny into their own hands. McAffee discussed the decline of business within the Jamestown area in recent decades, something he wishes to change as a resident of Jamestown for over half of his life. Hoping to serve as an inspiration to other young creative minds in the area, Macafee said he wants young minds to know that “big ideas can come from small areas” and hopes to be a supportive part of returning the reputation of business and manufacturing to Jamestown.

Manufacturing could begin shortly, McAffee said, with estimated presales for the product set for November. The company is continuing to develop other products as well, hoping to further safety and user ease for electrical components. Upon release, their product will be available on the B.I.R.T. Technology website. For more information email BirtTech@gmail.com.
