Now that the Downtown Jamestown Cruise-In event has officially been saved by Wicked Warrens and My CHQ, it has also been approved by the City Council's Public Safety Committee.
During Monday's public safety committee meeting, the event was up for approval under the committee's special events. Councilman Jeff Russell, R-At Large and chair of the public safety committee, expressed his thanks to the two organizations for picking up the event.
"I can't thank them enough for doing this and keeping it downtown," Russell said. "I think it's a great event and I hope everyone visits Wicked Warrens for their delicious food down there."
The Downtown Jamestown Cruise-In is set for Aug. 15.
Also under the special events to be discussed Monday by the committee was a block party looking to be held on Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., that also looks to block off Third Street from Cook to Lakin Avenues. Public Safety Committee members expressed some concerns with the idea of closing down a section of Third Street.
"Are they going to put up any signage approaching from east bound or west bound that Third Street is closed, seek alternate routes?" Councilman Joe Paterniti, R-Ward 4, said. "You're going to have a lot of people traveling half way down that street realizing that."
The committee agreed to have putting up signs to say that part of Third Street will be closed will be a condition of them passing the special event application. There is also the possibility of them asking for the party to block off one or both of the other side streets instead. The committee tabled the passage of the event for now, saying that they will talk with Director of Public Works, Mark Roetzer, about it as well.
